Sofie Rose Strømme
Sofie Rose studied musical theatre for a year at The Norwegian College of Musical Theatre and later pursued other academic studies at the University of Oslo. She has also done work in songwriting, releasing five solo singles. She is part of the duo “Rose & Mohr” who produce music content online and will soon be releasing their own music to all streaming platforms. Currently, Sofie also works as a singing teacher for Bragernes choir in Drammen as well as a professional singer performing at concerts, musical theatre productions, weddings, and other events.
Sofie has been teaching singing at OiMS since 2017. She enjoys working with young students and helping them achieve their singing goals. Her lessons focus on cultivating a love for music and singing. Her teaching approach focuses on three main elements. Firstly, an understanding of basic singing technique is important for any singer, no matter which style of singing you’re interested in. Continuing from that, the second element is focusing on bridging the gap between speaking and singing. Many people think of their singing voice as something separate from their speaking voice. Bridging this gap gives students a more relaxed approach to what is simply producing sound. Lastly, musical enjoyment is an extremely important element of Sofie’s approach to singing lessons. One of the ways Sofie cultivates musical enjoyment is by including students in the process of choosing repertoire that they enjoy. Often this can boost motivation and help students to understand their own unique voices.
